WHAT ENERGY POLICIES FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY IN AFRICAN CITIES?
SAM-E aims to generate a number of positive results for stakeholders at the same time

Development of soft modes of transport
Encourage urban planning with safe bicycle paths and pedestrian zones. Encourage self-service bike and scooter rentals to diversify mobility options. Raise public awareness of the benefits of soft transport through communication campaigns.

Promoting electric public transport
Encourage the adoption of electric buses by offering subsidies to transport operators. Develop a network of rapid charging stations accessible to the general public. Strengthen public-private partnerships to stimulate the production and distribution of electric buses in Africa.

Promotion of individual electric vehicles
Grant tax incentives and reduce customs duties to facilitate the import of electric vehicles. Support automakers in developing models adapted to African realities. Promote technology transfer by encouraging the installation of production units in Côte d’Ivoire.

Improving vehicle fuel efficiency
Tighten emission standards for internal combustion vehicles to reduce their environmental impact. Set up incentive programs to replace older vehicles with more fuel-efficient models.

Development of renewable energies
Accelerate the production of solar-generated electricity by installing solar panels on public and private buildings. Promote the use of biofuels derived from local resources to power means of transport.

Integrated urban planning
Integrate sustainable mobility issues into urban planning policies to create more compact, better served cities. Introduce low-emission zones where only environmentally-friendly vehicles are allowed.

Governance and financing
Establish a stable, incentive-based regulatory framework for the development of sustainable transport. Mobilize international financing to support the energy transition in Africa’s transport sector.

Data and technology integration
Optimize traffic management with intelligent technologies to reduce congestion. Develop digital applications to facilitate travel planning and promote the most sustainable modes of transport.
